Am searching for any information on Van Arnam or variant spellings of family name such as Van Arman, Van Orman. My Van Arnam ancestors migrated from New York to Canada and back to New York and then in early 1800s to Henry, Bureau, Lee and possibly Marshall Counties . Great Grandfather James Van Arnam with Wife Eliza, John, wife Chlo and family arrived 1839. Daman, Richard Van Arnam and others preceded. Van Arnams married to families named Berry, Moody, Brosius, Stiles, Lawrence, Ong, Robinson, Have had some luck in finding data in Lee and Bureau Counties. Problem is Van Arnams were often married more than once. Identify is further complicated by fathers, sons and cousins with same or similar given names. Any leads or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The 1850 Bureau Co., Illinois, census shows a William Jefferson CALDWELL, age 12, born Illinois, living with the family of Jeremiah and Catherine McKINNEY (household #271), both age 54, both born Kentucky, their 6 children, ages 17-30, plus Absalom WALKER, age 34, born Illinois, and his 4 children, ages 6-11. We believe this William Jefferson CALDWELL to be the son of James CALDWELL who lived somewhere in Illinois from the 1830s to about 1850-1855, then moved to Greene County / Webster County, Missouri. James' first wife died, and he remarried in Webster Co., MO, in 1856, then died in 1860. His probate file names William Jefferson and stated that he lived in "Burou" [?] County, Illinois, but we've not located him in the 1860 Illinois census. We do not know why William Jefferson was left behind when his father went to Missouri. Family tradition says that William Jefferson CALDWELL went to California and was never heard from again. Of course, this could also mean that he either stayed in Illinois, or went most anywhere, and was never heard from again. If anyone has any clues to William Jefferson CALDWELL's life after 1850, we'd love to hear from you.

Looking for information about my aunt Verona VAN PAUL. Her father Edmond Van Paul died in Jan. 1918 and she was taken in by a family named VERBECK/VERBECKE (not sure of the spelling) possibly living in Tishkilwa. Her sister, Minnette, is my mother. My mother lost contact with her because she moved in with an aunt (Minnie Safe) in Rock Island. There grandfather was B. Olson FREED, who lived in Geneseo when he joined the IL Volunteers in 1861. I believe that the VERBECKE family were railroad workers. I don't know if she was adopted by the VERBECKE'S or not and I don't know if she married. If anyone can assist me with finding information about my aunt Verona VAN PAUL would be greatly appreciated.

My wife was going through some old papers from a great-aunt, who had passed away reciently, and stumbled across some old letters dated 1862-1864. These letters are from a Lt. Linton addressed to his wife, Caroline. Some were mailed to her in Bureau Co. and some in La Salle Co.
I have traced Lt. Linton to the 57th Illinois Regiment, Company B. In one of his letters he refers to a Dr. Zearing. Dr. Zearing is listed in the Adjutant General's Regimental History of the 57th. But nowhere in the document does it mention Lt. Linton. Do you know of an existing company roster?
